At First Tunnels, we’re not just about building structures. We’re about empowering possibilities, shaping dreams into reality, and helping our clients grow – quite literally! Today, we celebrate a unique partnership that embodies our core values, a venture that has fostered the harmony between business growth and the flourishing of the natural world.
It’s with Harrowden Turf, a company synonymous with quality turf, sedum and wildflower plants. Nestled in the serene countryside of Feltwell, Norfolk, their work is changing landscapes, and helping biodiversity bloom across the English countryside.

Their journey with our polytunnels began in January 2022. Harrowden Turf procured their first polytunnel from First Tunnels, an essential part of their broader initiative towards promoting biodiversity. From a single polytunnel, their order expanded to three within a span of just over a year. An expansion testament to the robust quality, functionality, and positive impact of our products on their operations.
We designed our polytunnels with a vision of empowerment, enabling businesses like Harrowden Turf to grow their production scale and efficiency. The result is not just about business prosperity but fostering a greener, more sustainable world.
These polytunnels, stationed at Harrowden’s farm in Feltwell, have become pivotal to the nurturing and development of their sedum and wildflower plants. These species, while beautiful and vibrant, play an indispensable role in enriching biodiversity. Their popularity is on the rise as more consumers and landscapers awaken to the allure of wildflowers and green roofs.
Sedums and wildflowers are more than just aesthetics; they act as significant contributors to biodiversity, providing habitats and food sources for pollinators and other wildlife.
Simon Marsh from Harrowden Turf explains,
“With the three tunnels we will have now, we can bring new plants on quickly and bring show plants on stream almost to a schedule.”

First Tunnels’ polytunnels are aiding Harrowden Turf’s vision, and the firm’s growth mirrors the array of plants that it cultivates.
“Within the tunnels, we currently have a variety of wildflower species – Red Campion, Dianthus, Oxeye Daisy, Reflexum, Spurium, and Ragged Robin amongst others,” Marsh elaborates.

The tunnels’ design enables an ideal nurturing environment for these species, aiding quick and efficient growth. It’s like a scheduled performance, each species taking the stage as per a precise timing, ensuring a continual show of planting and growth throughout the year.
Our polytunnels are designed to handle the variables of nature, ensuring that businesses like Harrowden Turf can operate with confidence, knowing their precious crops are protected. It’s a testament to how much we care about our clients’ success and the success of the wider ecosystem.

This collaboration is not just about two businesses. It’s about a shared vision of greener pastures, blossoming biodiversity, and sustainable growth. It’s about the future – a future where businesses and nature grow hand in hand, powered by the strength and durability of First Tunnels’ polytunnels.

At First Tunnels, we’re proud to partner with a company that values biodiversity and sustainable practices as much as we do. This journey with Harrowden Turf is more than a business collaboration. It’s an embodiment of our shared commitment towards nurturing biodiversity.
We are excited about the growth and transformation Harrowden Turf has experienced and the role our polytunnels play in that journey. To many more years of blossoming wildflowers.
