Children are natural gardeners. They are curious. They like to learn by doing and LOVE playing in the dirt! Traditionally, children are said to hate eating their greens but gardening can transform their attitude to fruit and vegetables. When children participate in growing edible plants, they are more motivated to taste, eat, and enjoy fruits and vegetables.
Why Do Children Love Polytunnel Gardening?
Think of it as an extra classroom where young minds can enjoy the thrill of watching nature work its wonders, learning about where their food comes from and how it is grown, while also introducing them to an expanded variety of fruit and vegetables.
Gardening is a fabulous activity for children and it can be a wonderfully educational one, too. Hands-on learning, inquiry, observation, and experimentation. Gardening also helps children build an understanding of and respect for nature and our environment. Your allotment, veg patch or Polytunnel can be a great place to teach your kids a little biology and introduce them to the wonders of the natural world in a way that’s fun and likely to spark an interest that will last a lifetime.
First Tunnels Polytunnels will help make it possible in almost any learning landscape all year round!
Polytunnels are now a recognised way for schools to increase their green credentials and the possibilities are endless…an ever-changing classroom, full of colour, full of fun and a fantastic base for children of all ages to learn whilst invigorating the children’s imagination and teaching them about the values of healthy living and good food nutrition. Whatever the timetable, there’s an activity that will bring the subject to life, get the children involved and open everyone’s eyes to new and exciting things! And of course, there’s the added bonus too. Your very own harvest of wonderfully fresh fruit and vegetables to enjoy at school or take home to impress the family.
The First Tunnels Classroom. The perfect way to nurture a growing mind!

A big strawberry bed is guaranteed to draw them into a poly-tunnel like a magnet, then you set them on growing them for themselves, it works but you don’t get many strawberrys for yourself. lol.
